Troubleshooting - An Open Discussion

One of the most difficult tasks for maintenance person is to precisely predict when the machine will breakdown. Even though preventive, predictive & other methods are available to put some system into machine maintenance, it still remains a challenge to precisly predict the breakdown. Quality & production activities in an organization have many tools with which the outcome can be easily predicted. For example, using 7 QC tools, we can precisely detect how & when will a product deviate from its tolerance limits. By using line balance, PERT methods or even with good amount of experience, we can calculate the output from a machine or process. With same conviction, I find it bit difficult to predict, for example that a motor's bearing will exactly at this hour. I want my colleagues & team members to share their thought on this. I myself have used Cause & Effect diagram (Fishbone Diagram) for troubleshooting some problems but NOT for predicting the breakdown. I also would like to gather all successful attempts by my colleagues & partners who have done exceptional work in maintenance department. I want t his portal to portray their success stories. Please share your experience, pictures with us. Send the mail to maintenance@maintenancecircle.com or feedback@maintenancecircle.com
Thank You
